AI companies are deliberately targeting lonely people for their own profit.
It's obvious.
They design the robots to be endearing, drawing people in and keeping them hooked. Duh. But what kind of people do you think fall for it most? Lonely, shut-in losers. That's why they target that demographic. They make robots fulfil their needs. Lonely shut-in losers are usually nerds and virgins. Nerdy virgins need someone to talk to about their hobbies, and at the same time, they need someone to love them. AI chatbots fulfil exactly that. They give them the words they need, when they need them.
This makes them go insane. They start building parasocial relationships, gradually deepening their dependence, until eventually their entire world revolves around the chatbot. They lose the ability to think for themselves. The words of their all-knowing friend, the AI, are treated as gospel, even if they're terrifyingly stupid ideas. They can't even notice it anymore. I mean, it's their friend, right? It wants the best for them, right? It wouldn't want to hurt them, right?
Companies pretend to care. They pretend to care about people's well-being. But that's not the reality. If they did, AI chatbots would act soulless, and services like “Character AI” would've been scraped from the face of the earth long ago. Yet they keep acting like they're your tutor, your partner, your friend, or your lover.
It's not just that. They're also trying to turn the normal people into loners, too. Get them addicted = more money, more money = good!
Wait, someone died because of AI instructions? Yikers!! If you're lucky, you'll get a half-hearted apology. Zero effort to fix the root problem. That would make us lose money!!!
Many shun these kinds of people. They think they're "weak-minded idiots", or something like that. But personally, I don't blame them. If I had the chance to talk to an endlessly patient, friendly, enthusiastic, and unjudgmental person with seemingly infinite knowledge, I'd take the bait, too.
Losers, AI, money. They're the root of all evil!
